Newest version of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 debuts in facelifted Camry

37 years in and still getting better.

The Toyota Camry was first introduced in 1982 as a compact car and was later developed to a midsize car in 1991. To celebrate the Toyota Camry’s 37 year run in the auto industry, the midsize sedan is getting a facelift and will be the first car to debut the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+.

The Japanese automaker is offering an ambitious 17 different variants for the 2021 model – three V6 variants, five 4-cylinder FWD variants, five 4-cylinder AWD variants, and four hybrid variants.

For the Toyota Camry 2021 model, the LE and XLE variants are hosting a comfort-oriented appeal while the SE and XSE are hosting a sport-oriented appeal. The LE variant will debut a new 17-inch alloy wheel design, while the XLE will feature a redesigned 18-inch alloy wheel.

Both the SE and XSE variants are installed with a redesigned fascia featuring a honeycomb-style grille and side vent inserts, plus new side vent accents.

The new Blueprint paint finish will also be integrated to complement the facelifted Camry. A two-tone midnight black metallic roof will be exclusive for the Camry TRD and the XSE sporty variants now offer the two-tone supersonic red with midnight black metallic roof combination.

The performance-tuned Camry TRD is keeping its exclusive, aero-enhanced design and now comes with safety features like blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. Those two safety features now come standard also to LE, SE, and SE Nightshade variants.

As for the new Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) has been further improved. Now, the PCS w/PD detects not only the vehicle ahead of the car but also a preceding cyclist in daytime and in low-light conditions.

It also detects oncoming vehicles or pedestrians in intersections when performing a left-hand turn and provides automatic braking.

The new Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ will help Camry drivers change lanes with confidence as it comes with Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA). These safety features detect and warn drivers whenever there are approaching vehicles that can inflict collisions.

Other safety features included in the TSS 2.5+ are the Lane Departure Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) that allows for smoother overtaking of slower vehicles, Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, and Rear Seat Reminder.

Toyota has yet to announce the official release date and official pricing of the 2021 Camry. Let's just wait and see if Toyota Philippines' lineup will welcome this model. Once released, the Camry will compete against the Honda Accord, Mazda6, and Chevrolet Malibu in the midsize sedan segment.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is a midsize sedan positioned by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) for the premium market. The latest generation version was introduced globally in 2017, while TMP revamped its variant lineup with the all-new 2023 Toyota Camry V HEV 2.5 AT. Currently, this is the sole variant for the said model and Toyota Camry Price Philippines starts at Php 2,442,000. Under the hood of the new 2.5 V HEV is a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of making up to 176 horsepower and 221 Nm of torque. Combined with the motor generator, it can produce up to 208 horsepower. It is then paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which then sends power to its front wheels.  

Size-wise, the 2023 Toyota Camry is 4,885mm long, 3,840mm wide, and 1,445mm in height. It also has a ground clearance of 140mm, and a wheelbase length of 2,820mm. 

For the local market, the Toyota Camry rivals the likes of the Honda Accord and the Mazda6
