Chevrolet releases another new variant their pick-up truck model, the all-new 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss.

As is evident from the Philippine car market today, Pick-up trucks are high in demand. This, of course, is also plain to see from the numerous variants and trim levels most major car manufacturer has released for their pick-up trucks with each catering to a niche or to a consumer’s needs.

Or simply, to make them cooler. Aside from those, their special edition trims are of course better looking and much more features and capabilities than their base variants.

There are the Raptor and the Wildtrack for the Ford Ranger which of course are the most brusquely powerful of the bunch. There’s the recently released Black Edition and the N-Warrior for the Nissan Navara. The Boondock for the Isuzu D-Max.

The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss is inspired directly by the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss. Neat!

The Conquest for the Toyota Hilux, and the High Country for the Chevrolet Colorado. Recently, however, at the 2019 Cebu International Auto Show, Chevrolet Philippines added another special variant for their already brilliant pick-up truck…the 2020 Colorado Trail Boss.

1. Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss 2020: So what is it?

Derived from a recently released trim on the American release 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, the 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss is somewhat a way given to us by Chevrolet to enjoy a genuine the “American Truck heritage” experience.

The variant itself is designed for the more adventurous side hidden within us while also being wrapped in additional comfort and protected by the same suite of dependable safety features that the Colorado model line offers.

2. Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss 2020: The Exterior

The 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss, as the name implies, looks significantly more robust than the base model Colorado. Just at a glance, you can already see what we’re talking about. The grille up front is blacked out, the 18-inch alloy wheels are also painted black, as well as the fenders and the tail-gate.

These provide a contrasting color scheme to the vehicle which highlights the very macho details of the truck. This provides the Colorado Trail Boss with an air of ruggedness and capability that certainly makes it stand out.

That's a beefier, tougher looking sports bar compared to the one on the High Country

Aside from the color scheme though, there’s also the rugged-looking sports bar straddling the cargo bed. And in talking about the cargo bed, it can actually haul up to a ton. Down below, Chevrolet also gave it a limited-slip-differential which is highly appropriate for what the American car company intends the Colorado Trail boss to be, something that can travel rapidly over sand, mud, and un-cemented roads.

Lastly, the Trail Boss has a wading capacity of 800 mm which we think might be useful especially during the monsoon season here in the Philippines.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss: The Interior and Safety Features

As for the interior of the Trail Boss, you won’t find that much different from the base truck design-wise. They did, however, add the MyLink infotainment system which of course can handle Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is the same one found on the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado High Country Storm once debut in the Philippines.

With regards to safety features, the Colorado Trail Boss is provided the same selection with the standard variants and the High country. It comes with ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, an engine immobilizer with a security alarm, and the same amount of airbags.

2019 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss: Engine

Under the hood, the 2020 Colorado Trail Boss version likewise gets the same turbocharged 2.8 liters Duramax Inline four that are found on both the High Country Storm and some variants of the regular 2019 Chevrolet Colorado.

One the Trail Boss, the engine is mated to a six-speed automatic and is capable of making a significant 200 horsepower and 500 nm of torque. This amount of power it can make not only enables the Trail Boss to haul a ton of payload but also it can tow around up to three tons.

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: the Colorado Trail Boss as of yet only has a 4x2 drivetrain. There’s no word yet from Chevrolet Philippines if there’s going to be a 4x4 version but regardless, this doesn’t mean the currently available Trail Boss is less capable as it does get a limited-slip differential.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss: Pricing

You’ll be glad to know that the brilliantly robust 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss is now available for purchase nationwide for Php 1,368,888. A price that positions it in the middle of the Colorado range of variants.

On top of those, the powertrain itself also gets a warranty covering 100,000 km or 2 years, depending on which one comes first. Overall, we think that the Colorado Trail Boss is a great deal.

While its styling is subtler than many special truck variants out there, it can definitely be regarded as sexy all the while being significantly brawnier even than the High Country Storm courtesy of that tougher looking sport rack.

It also looks like it could really stand out from the variant line-up of the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado as well as having a price that won’t break your bank.
