The 2021 Ford F-150 made its global debut featuring an over-the-air (OTA) software update technology. This means that the new F-150 is the first Ford vehicle to integrate the blue oval brand’s new electrical architecture, which allows you to receive regular OTA or online updates to enhance vehicle performance and user experience.

Ford’s OTA software update capability allows owners of the new F-150 a quick and easy wireless upgrade that is said to help enhance the truck’s quality, capability, as well as improve the ownership experience. OTA updates can include all-new functions and additional features throughout the life of the truck.

It can also support preventative maintenance, reduce repair trips, and provide improved performance to the truck. Most updates will be completed in under two minutes only. This tech is timely considering the threat brought upon by the COVID-19 virus as over-the-air updates will reduce trips to Ford dealerships.

A notification will be sent to the owners of the 2021 F-150 once there’s an available over-the-air update. Updates can be installed via Wi-Fi or cellular connections, and in-vehicle alerts will notify owners telling what updates were installed in the new F-150. It’s just like how you update the software of your smartphones.

The 2021 Ford F-150 still comes with a high-strength, military-grade aluminum-alloy body, which is a material lighter than steel. Under the hood, this truck is available with six engine options including a lone diesel power unit, the 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6.

2021 F-150 is also available with an all-new 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid engine

The 2021 F-150 is also available with an all-new 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid engine. The said hybrid engine comes with a 47 hp electric motor that applies regenerative braking energy, which helps recharge the 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid engine is targeting an EPA-estimated range of around 1,127 km on a single full tank of gas, as well as a maximum towing capability of at least 12,000 pounds (about 5,443 kg).

Other engine options available for the F-150 are the following: 3.3-liter V6 gasoline, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 5.0-liter V8, and 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6. Power figures weren't disclosed for the engine options of the F-150, but we suspect there would minimal deviation from before.

All of the engines are connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is similar to the outgoing model that was recently launched in the Philippine market. The 2021 F-150 is still available in six variants for the U.S. market, which are the following: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

The F-150's grille differs by the trim level

The design of the 2021 F-150 features a bolder front end due to its new Quad-LED headlights, head-turner LED daytime running lights, revised grille, new power dome hood, and a slightly restyled bumper. The said parts are like an ensemble that makes the F-150 an even tougher looking truck.

We can also see that the Ford F-150 is fitted with a new exterior mirror, while the rest of its side looks similar to the outgoing model. Ford says the 2021 F-150 is the “most aerodynamic ever.” Thanks to its new active grille shutters along with automatically deploying an active air dam, and a new cab and tailgate design.

The rear also gets subtle but distinctive design updates, which is seen mostly at the F-150’s new LED taillights cluster. It looks more refined as compared to the taillights found on the old model. And oh, the 2021 F-150 can be equipped with a set of 22-inch polished-aluminum alloy wheels, which adds to the truck's overall style points.

Inside, the first thing you’ll probably notice is the massive 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system that sits right in the middle of the dashboard. It can let occupants control multiple functions simultaneously, including navigation, music, or truck features.

Despite the new infotainment system, the F-150’s dashboard still comes with a straightforward layout, which we actually like. The steering wheel looks sleek, and it also comes with an electronic power-assisted system, which allows this big truck to have a sedan-like steering feel. You also can’t help but notice the F-150’s digital instrument cluster, which displays the essential vehicle information clearly.
