It looks better in the metal than in official images.

The 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross made its official debut in Thailand. It’s a five-seater crossover SUV that’s set to rival the likes of the Honda HR-V, Subaru XV, and Geely Coolray should Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) decide to bring the Corolla Cross in our market.

This vehicle is like the smaller version of the RAV4 but it is relatively longer and wider as compared to the Rush, which sort of makes the Corolla Cross a bit out of place as to how it will fit in the current model lineup of TMP.

It may affect the sales performance of the Rush since Filipino buyers could consider getting the Corolla Cross, which is an all-new model. On the other hand, the Corolla Cross might have a difficult time attracting Filipino consumers given the standard retail price of its entry-level variant in Thailand, which is around Php 1,570,000.

To put things in perspective, the current top-spec Rush that we have in the market is priced at Php 1,100,000, which is almost 500K cheaper than the Corolla Cross.

Moreover, the entry-level price of the Corolla Cross is not far off with the price tag of the current Fortuner that we have here. In fact, you can already get the 4x2 G Diesel AT variant of the Fortuner at Php 1,723,00, which is just more than Php 150,000 than the entry-level Corolla Cross. Also, the Fortuner comes with a seven-seater capacity as compared to the Crolla Cross’ five.

But maybe we’re thinking ahead too much in considering the idea of TMP bringing the Corolla Cross. Let’s shift back our focus to Toyota’s latest vehicle, shall we?

The Japanese automaker’s new crossover SUV is built on the Toyota New Global  Architecture (TNGA), specifically the TNGA-C platform that’s also used for the Corolla Altis and C-HR.

As said earlier, the Corolla Cross is like the smaller version of the RAV4 and it is a vehicle that comes with a more conservative design as compared to the C-HR.
