The Vios gets a sportier look and a 10-speed CVT.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially launched the 2021 Vios GR-S, a move that shows the brand’s commitment to maintaining its foothold in the local market. The said vehicle is the sportier variant of the Vios subcompact sedan that aims to rival the Honda City RS.

The Vios GR-S comes with an appearance package courtesy of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) brand. Aside from giving the Vios a sportier appeal, Toyota GR also did subtle tweaks to the Vios subcompact sedan. TMP president Atsuhiro Okamoto said that the goal of the Toyota GR is to integrate motorsports-inspired upgrades to the 2021 Vios to achieve a more pleasurable drive.

“Our goal with the Vios GR-S is to transform your reliable everyday car, to a Vios that gives a more pleasurable drive, whether on track or on the road… the Vios GR-S will bring next level thrill in your everyday drive,” Okamoto said.

The exterior of the 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S has been given a significant makeover courtesy of Gazoo Racing. It looks sportier, sharper, and more aggressive as compared to other Vios variants.  

The Vios GR-S gets a revamped grille that now comes with mesh pattern while the front bumper gets a more angular look that gives the vehicle a striking appeal. It also comes with a lip spoiler, which is part of the aero kit installed in the Vios GR-S. Moreover, the Vios GR-S is equipped with LED headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lamps.

When viewed from the side, you can’t miss the side skirt fitted to the 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S. The car also gets blacked-out door handles, side mirrors, and 16-inch alloy wheels which add accent to the overall look of the car.

The sporty styling continues to be seen at the rear. The Vios GR-S gets an integrated diffuser as well as a spoiler. In case you’re wondering, the Vios GR-S is 42mm longer as compared to non-GR variants.

Inside, the Vios GR-S comes with the same interior layout found on other Toyota Vios variants. But, it features subtle design changes that make the Vios GR-S more distinctive such as red stitching on the leather steering wheel. You can also see red stitching accents on the gear lever and on the suede/synthetic leather seats. The 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S is also fitted with a restyled instrument cluster and GR embroidery on the seat headrest.  

Tech & Safety

The Vios GR-S also gets the same 6.75-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also has six speakers, automatic airconditioning, and a push start button. 

In terms of safety, the Vios GR-S with 7 airbags, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, parking sensors, among others. 

Engine

The 2021 Vios GR-S is powered by the same 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that puts out 106 hp and 140 Nm of torque. But, the Vios GR-S comes with a 10-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The 2021 Toyota Vios GR-S comes with a starting price of Php 1,020,000 for exterior colors such as Super Red and Black. The price gets a slight bump to Php 1,035,000 if you opt to get the Vios GR-S in White Pearl. 

The 2021 Vios GR-S will be available in all of TMP’s dealerships across the country starting March 15, 2021. 

On the other hand, TMP is also looking to bring back Vios racers to the racetrack by July this year, provided it is deemed safe by authorities to hold events of such nature. If the situation permits, TMP is eyeing to hold the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup.
